The detector allows the diffracted X-rays to be detected. There are many kinds of detectors available on the market. One of the most widely used types of detectors is the scintillation counter due to its sturdiness and reliability. It consists of a scintillator, a material that emits visible light on exposure to X-rays. This fluorescent radiation causes a photocathode to emit photoelectrons which are amplified by a photoelectron multiplier. This is then counted by electronic equipment to quantify the amplitude of the signals.
